Materials Testing Laboratory The Materials Joining Laboratory is used for laboratory exercises supporting ENTC 181 Manufacturing and Assembly Processes I, and ENTC 313 Industrial Welding Processes. Oxy-acetylene and plasma arc cutting equipment, including an oxy-acetylene track torch are used by students to prepare test specimens. Students learn a variety of welding processes including SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding), GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), FCAW (Flex Cored Arc Welding), SAW (Submerged Arc Welding), and Resistance Welding. Metal working equipment including a shear brake, an iron worker, and a bender are also used by the students for fabrication purposes in this laboratory. Facilities include: 13 SMAW stations, 3 high-frequency GTAW welding stations, and 9 CV stations for GMAW and FCAW. |
