Rockwell Automation Laboratory

The Rockwell Automation Laboratory is designed to provide state of the art education, research, and service in the area of Automation and Control. Its primary missions include:
1. Educate students using state-of-the-art programmable logic controller and motion control knowledge and equipment;
2. Serve as a center of excellence for industrial automation and control and manufacturing information technology research;
3. Extend automation education to other educators, and industry partners

The Rockwell Automation Lab was initiated with a five-year gift of $955,900 (cash and new quipment) from Rockwell Automation, Inc. The original project team included Richard Alexander (Lead), Dan Jennings, Sheng-Jen ("Tony") Hsieh (Technical Director) and Barry Lawrence. The lab actually consists of two smaller labs: the Main Laboratory and the System Integration Laboratory. Students learn basic (component-level) knowledge and skills in the Main Laboratory; then develop integrated (system-level)
knowledge by working in the System Integration Laboratory. The lab supports automation and control education for approximately one-fourth of the Engineering Technology and Industrial Distribution department’s 1,300 undergraduates.
