The Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering Technology Programs have established a new award to recognize the contributions of its students who find unique and creative ways to increase recognition of the EET/TET Programs and add value to their students.  The award is complementary to the more traditional scholarship, but seeks to stimulate and reinforce the concept of involvement and participation in the making the programs better.  Individuals or small groups of students (regardless of GPA or other characteristics) can submit a proposal for an idea or project they would like to do that improves the educational experience for EET/TET students, enhances the name recognition of the programs across campus, and the nation, or otherwise adds value.  These proposals are reviewed on a quarterly basis and cash awards ranging from $250 to $1000 are made to the students that complete the proposed activities.  Example activities of past winners of the Spirit Award are 1) an Etiquette Dinner, 2) a Dress for Success Seminar, and 3) a new web-based large-screen display of EET/TET activities and events (see capstone.tamu.edu/display).  Unlike scholarships that reward academic excellence, the spirit awards encourage students to take ownership in their education, to step up, and make a difference.  If you are a former student or industry representative and would like to participate in this new program, please contact the EET/TET Program Director, Dr. Jay R. Porter for more information.  Your donation will have impact not only on the spirit award winner but all EET/TET students.
