MMET Updates NDT Lab.

MMET program has completed the installation of a computed radiography (CR) system in the NDT lab for ENTC 402 course.  This is a state-of-the-art digital radiographic system for industrial NDT applications which consists of a 160 KV X-ray tube, an X-ray cabinet which allows X-ray exposures to be safely carried out in the lab, a VMI laser scanner, and a computer system equipped with a Starrview imaging process software plus a high resolution monitor.   This CR technology employs reusable imaging plate as image capture device instead of the conventional films which involve chemical processing, thus no chemical will ever be needed for this CR system.  This CR system valued at around $200,000 was donated by two companies, Virtual Media Integration (VMI) for their laser scanner and Starrview software, and Team Industrial Services for the X-ray and cabinet system.  However, Jim Halley at Advanced Inspection Technologies (AIT) which is one of our IAC members played a key role in securing the donation from VMI.  Students taking ENTC 402 this semester have all successfully conducted their CR experiments on April 29th and 30th.
